Mathison raises $4.2 million led by Bain Capital Ventures to accelerate our growth and impact

Today we are excited to share that Mathison has closed a $4.2 million seed round led by Bain Capital Ventures with Animo Ventures, SemperVirens, Company Ventures, Springbank Collective and Gaingels. The investment will fuel Mathison’s continued growth and impact. This marks a very pivotal milestone for Mathison in our mission to equip employers with everything they need to grow the diversity and equity of their organizations. We’d like to share more about the journey so far and what this means for our platform and community.  

How we got here

The events of the last year have brought us all even closer to the realities of the deep inequities that exist in the workforce and society as a whole. We find ourselves at a moment in time when employers are ready to take action and feel the urgency to grow diversity within their  organizations.
But despite the extraordinary energy and urgency, we found a huge gap between what employers needed to do and the resources and technology they could access to do it. 

We noticed that the solutions to support diversity hiring to date were greatly limited in scope and completely disjointed - some only focused on diversity sourcing alone and others only performed narrow functions like assessing job descriptions for bias. Every solution treated diversity hiring efforts as work that only a select few within an organization should own and advance. 

We believed this needed to change - sourcing diverse candidates isn’t enough if we aren’t fundamentally shifting our systems and cultures to include them. We have to go beyond our job descriptions to address bias across our entire hiring and talent processes. The action needed to grow diversity in our organizations can't be led by just a few people, it has to be something our whole workforce is equipped to advance. 

This is what inspired us to launch Mathison. We wanted to build technology that would enable employers to take a systematic and holistic approach to growing diversity in their organizations. Through extensive research with our employer partners over the last two years we've been able to introduce technology that gives employers a single place to measure and develop more equitable hiring practices, dramatically expands their diversity sourcing capabilities and equips the entire team with tools to actively engage in a broad range of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. 

This investment led by Bain Capital Ventures will allow us to greatly scale our technology solution, expand our team and increase our growth and impact. We will be hiring across our product, engineering and customer-facing teams and the investment will enable us to continue rolling out new platform features, including applicant tracking system integrations. 

We are now serving more than 70 employers across the globe and growing. With such a widespread interest in advancing diversity and knowledge sharing, we are developing new mechanisms for employers to assess where they are, access insights they need, and connect to the broader Mathison community for support. This work need not be done in silos. 

Our work spearheading research and thought leadership in the space will expand this year. In  August we come out with the first book in our category, Hiring for Diversity, and our platform will reflect many of the insights in the book.


What's next

This investment led by Bain Capital Ventures will allow us to greatly scale our technology solution, expand our team and increase our growth and impact. We are now serving more than 70 employers across the globe and growing.
